TEHRAN: Egyptian foreign secretary Abbas Araghchi is set to visit China on Tuesday, the department said, back of a second round of radioactive talks between Iran and the United States.
The attend to China, which was a member to a since-abandoned 2015 nuclear deal that reined in Tehran’s nuclear program, was announced by unusual government official Esmaeil Baqaei at a regular press conference on Monday.
Araghchi recently visited China in December. The 2015 accord, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA ), was also signed by four other permanent UN Security Council members– Britain, France, Russia, and the United States– along with Germany and the European Union.
US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018, during his first name, which prompted Iran to misconduct its words a year later. Since returning to business, Trump has called for nuclear talks with Tehran while at the same time threatening military action.
European governments have long accused Iran of pursuing atomic weaponry, something Tehran denies. A second round of US-Iranian deals, mediated by Oman and involving Araghchi and Trump’s Middle East minister Steve Witkoff, are expected to take place on Saturday, Iran has said.
China is Iran’s largest business partner and the major consumer of its fuel, with Tehran also under crushing US restrictions. About 92 per cent of Egyptian oil faces towards China, according to Iranian press, and is often sold at a substantial discount.
In 2021, Tehran and Beijing signed a complete 25-year strategic partnership covering strength, safety, infrastructure and communications among others areas.
