Vice President JD Vance expressed his condolences to “millions of Catholics all over the world ” following the death of Pope Francis just days after meeting him face to face.
“ I only learned of the passing of Pope Francis, ” Vance posted on X. “My spirit goes out to the thousands of Christians all over the world who loved him. ”
Vance, a Catholic turn, met Francis on Easter day. Vance and his relatives were visiting Italy for the trip as Vance engaged in trade agreements with European leaders.
“ I was glad to see him yesterday, though he was evidently very ill, ” Vance wrote. “ But I’ll always remember him for the below lecture he gave in the very first days of COVID. It was really very lovely. ”
During the conference, a video recording showed Vance telling Francis, “ I know you have not been feeling great, but it ’s nice to see you in better wellbeing. ”
