President Donald Trump took a break from the pressures of presidential life on Monday to engage with families and children at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. While mingling with attendees on the South Lawn, Trump delivered a quip that drew laughs, including from his wife, first lady Melania Trump.
The president’s comments were in reference to a widely shared moment from Easter 2022 when an aide dressed as the Easter Bunny appeared to redirect a confused-looking former President Joe Biden after he began discussing Afghanistan and Pakistan with reporters.
Do you remember that moment with the bunny and Joe Biden? It was something else. Well, no bunny is taking out President Trump! That was quite the scene when the bunny stepped in for Biden. pic.twitter.com/1p32yqbmku

“He’s not going to be taking Trump out!” the president added, making the first lady, who was standing nearby, giggle.
The joke was a nod to the discussion around Biden’s cognitive decline toward the end of his presidency, which has been the subject of political scrutiny renewed in recent headlines. A slew of new books, including one by journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, detail rising concerns among prominent Democrats about Biden’s mental acuity ahead of the 2024 presidential debate.
Biden’s 2022 Easter Bunny intervention may have been part of the administration’s broader strategy to manage his public appearances. However, the 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll event was filled with lighter, more heartwarming interactions.
The first lady and the president participated in traditional festivities, including blowing whistles, egg rolling, and coloring with children.

“I’m really into this,” he said, smiling as he colored alongside the children.
The president also couldn’t resist a playful shout-out to his wife.
“The first lady of the United States!” he declared, prompting the first lady to look up from her own coloring table with a smile.

As they strolled the South Lawn, the couple greeted children. At one point, a young boy leaned in for a high five, which the president gladly returned.

At the event’s Reading Nook, the first lady read Bunny with a Big Heart to a group of children and led a discussion on kindness and friendship. She asked the children what they learned from the book, gently repeating their answers: “Yes, we need to make friends,” “take care of them,” “kindness,” and “to be kind to other people.”
The president’s daughters, Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump, also shared sweet moments from the family’s Easter celebrations, including Tiffany Trump’s Peter Rabbit-themed baby shower.
