White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters during Tuesday ’s briefing that the trip will occur from May 13-16 and will include stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
The White House had formerly previewed this journey as the first excursion overseas of Trump’s second term in office, but the leader and first lady Melania Trump may now go to Rome this trip to attend the funeral service for Pope Francis, who died on Monday at the age of 88.
“The president looks to strengthen the relations between the United States and these places in which he will get visiting, ” Leavitt said Tuesday. “ He’ll been having some intergovernmental meetings and discussions, and we look forward to the journey and wish to see many of you there. ”
Lake also faced a number of concerns about future meetings with leading Trump administration officers and their Western counterparts to remain discussions on a possible peace in the Ukraine War. Lake declined to say Tuesday if Trump’s Middle East journey may cross with Ukraine deals.
“However, I do have an update on discussions when it comes to the Russia-Ukraine war, ” Leavitt rather countered, mentioning that she had just been in the Oval Office with the leader and special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s place communicator with Moscow. “We’re finally moving in the right direction, and the specific minister, Steve Witkoff, may be heading to Russia again after this week to continue discussions with Vladimir Putin. ”
