Higher education specialist says center-right individuals feel that the “deck is stacked” against them.
According to a College Fix study, the federally funded Truman Scholarships were awarded to at least the 11th time in a row for the most part to left-leaning individuals.
An “abortion doula” and an “abolition feminist” are just two of the nominees for this year, The Fix discovered late next year. Many winners frequently employ” they/them” or other awkward nouns.
Around 50 students are chosen from a pool of more than 800 applicants and are given the$ 30,000 scholarship each year. After graduating from grad school, recipients commit to serving in public support for three of their first seven years.
About 43 of the 54 learners have worked for Democratic politicians, supported liberal causes, or recognize as left-leaning, continuing a long-standing trend that was highlighted in past College Fix articles.
Just three scientists, in contrast, have worked for Republican politicians, supported liberal causes, or often categorized as being right-leaning. Some, like the graduates of the company club, lack lucid political ideologies.
Based on the winners ‘ provided histories, LinkedIn patterns, and other social media accounts, The Fix determined this knowledge.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, California Senator Adam Schiff, former state senator Bob Casey, former governor of Virginia, Mark Warner, and former president Joe Biden are just a few examples of left-leaning officials who have worked for or imprisoned for scholarship recipients.
Additionally, honorees have worked with a number of left-leaning companies, including College Democrats, Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity, Palestine Solidarity Committee, and Planned Parenthood Generation Action.
In comparison, three of the consumers this year have worked for traditional organizations or politicians. One receiver previously worked for the Heritage Foundation, another for Bill Cassidy, a Democratic senator from Louisiana, and the second student is a member of the Republican Party of Utah.
Based on the availability of common information, it was impossible to determine the ideologies of the remaining eight students clearly. Veterans ‘ politics, aircraft plan, national security, and public health are among the topics considered politically balanced by The Fix.
Omar Abuattieh, a Rutgers University scholar, argued for voting third-party because of the stress over the Israel-Palestine discord. He is nevertheless listed on the County Committee for the Holmdel Republican Party. Abuattieh did not respond to an email from College Fix asking for clarification on his social beliefs.

The American Enterprise Institute’s director of education policy studies stated to The Fix that” the information suggests a fairly widespread left discrimination in the Truman selection procedure and said he has heard” a lot of tales that are in line with that.
Last month, Frederick Hess wrote his own statement on ideological bias for the Truman Scholarship system.
A former Truman board member said in response to the report that Republicans would only account for 10 % of Scholars in a given year. I would say that of the course of 60, 3-5 of them have obvious Democratic ties or signals. These results match The Fix‘s studies.
Hess claimed that traditional students feel disadvantageous during the application process because “right-leaning students and the couple of conventional faculty have come to the conclusion that the board is stacked and are reluctant to waste their time.”
The system announcements and info sessions” transmit a clear message as to what kind of work is pleasant, and it has a distinct intellectual bias,” Hess said.
The learning expert added that universities “nominate and mentor” the majority of student applicants, which is how they shape the intellectual mix for the Truman Scholarship.
Truman and these organizations could choose to put a wider online. They have never, he said, so much.
Hess argued that there needs to be adjustments, such as “working” to welcome and encourage students from different schools, disciplines, and academic traditions.
The Fix had inquiries from The Fix about whether there have been efforts to reduce the philosophical differences, if the collection process intentionally favors traditional pupils, or if there is a perception among liberal applicants that they are at a disadvantage. Neither Terry Babcock-Lumish, executive director of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, nor Tara Yglesias, deputy professional minister, responded to inquiries.
The Fix requested comment in an internet on Monday and left messages on Tuesday and Monday. The Truman Foundation reported the results on Good Friday in the middle of the time, but it turns out that the team was unresponsive the following Monday.
In the past, Babcock-Lumish has refuted promises of political discrimination in the Truman system.
The former Clinton White House staffer and Gates Foundation expert told The Fix last year that” The Truman Foundation’s collection process is entirely based on applicants ‘ demonstrated commitment to public services, leadership ability, and intellectual excellence.”
On Tuesday, The College Fix spoke with Michigan Republican Representative Tim Walberg’s office via phone and email regarding the hiring process and parliamentary monitoring. The Fix has not yet received a reply.
Since at least 2015, Truman Scholarships have been proportionally awarded to democratic individuals, as reported in past College Fix assessments.
Just five recipients of the award category identified as conservatives, according to The Fix last year, while 43 of the recipients had strong ties to liberal causes.
Zero explicitly right-leaning kids received a Truman Scholarship in 2018 and 2021.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, San Diego Democratic Mayor Todd Gloria, Hawaii Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz, and Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas are the latest board members of the Truman Scholarship Foundation.
