Greece’s prime minister announced on Thursday that the country would use the largest fire power in its history to combat a ominous fire season that has already resulted in over a thousand fires.
During a visit to the legal protection government, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated,” We have the largest number of men and women in the fireplace service for 2025.
As officials noted that over 1,300 fires had erupted in March, a period when Greek farmers typically burn left crops,” We may be prepared for the worst possible scenario,” Mitsotakis said.
More than 18, 000 rescuers will be available this month, according to the prime minister’s office,” a number higher than ever before.”
Another 300 rescuers from five of the member nations of the European Union will be stationed permanently in Greece this time, the statement added.
Additionally, there will be 80 surveillance drones and 3, 700 fireplace vehicles.
Last year, there were a number of deadly fire in Greece, including one that caused thousands of people to flee their homes before being contained to the cities of Athens.
Greece actually begins its fire season on May 1, but the nation has already experienced a dry spring and abnormally high temperatures in mid-March.
