U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) collaborated with Florida law enforcement to arrest nearly 800 illegal immigrants during the first four days of Operation Tidal Wave, a multi-agency immigration-enforcement crackdown that is still taking place.
Todd Lyons, the acting ICE director, told ABC News,” I think the main cause this activity is important is because it’s the first of its kind.” Not only have we been doing what we have, but we have also increased our use of all of our 287 ( g ) partners in the state of Florida, along with Homeland Security Investigations and Enforcement [and ] Removal Operations, which are all of ICE’s enforcement armies. We rely on local, state, and state law enforcement to support our businesses.
Of the 780 prosecutions, 275 were made with ultimate treatment orders, which means they can be taken out of the country quickly. National Review argues that the 287 ( g ) authority of ICE allows state and local law enforcement to be used to deputize illegal immigrants. Nearly 230 Florida law enforcement organizations have signed 287 ( g ) agreements, of which 130 are under the umbrella of a task force model that enables them to impose some immigration laws under the control of ICE.
This is one of the primary large-scale missions we’ve always conducted, Lyons said. We collaborate with collaborative jurisdictions to help ICE safe communities in our neighborhoods and reduce public safety threats in our neighborhoods.
He said,” State soldiers, neighborhood police officers, state officers are our eyes and ears. They have encountered these illegal aliens while performing their regular obligations, and they know what they are doing to pose a threat to our common safety.
A convicted murderer from Colombia and many illegal immigrants who are alleged to be crew members were among the arrests, according to Fox News.
Among those detained are:
Jose Sanchez Reyes, who entered the United States as a place after being found guilty of crime in Colombia. Rafael Juarez Cabrera, who reportedly belongs to MS-13, has been found guilty of criminal reentering after having entered the country three days without authorization. Officials even detained Savva Klishchevskii of Russia, who has an Interpol Red Notice for vehicular homicide.
