When a person barreled her Car through a nursery and after-school camp on Monday, killing four kids and leaving a trail of destruction in her wake, Chatham, Illinois, turned into a problem.
The YNOT After School Camp, located just south of Springfield, was where Illinois State Police claimed the collision took place around 3:20 pm ( local time ).
The car tore through the eastern side of the building without notice, leaving behind a wide opening, crushed dust, and stunned witnesses, knocking down three sufferers outside and striking another in.
All four of the subjects, who are thought to be between the ages of 4 and 18, died from their injuries. At least one of the six injured was taken to a plane and airlifted to a critical condition, according to authorities.
The Chatham Police Department said in a statement posted on Twitter that” this is a sad tragedy that has rocked our whole community,” pleading for prayer for the people who were the victims.
The driver, a woman who has not been identified, was reportedly a 38-year-old girl from Springfield who was by herself in the Van and managed to escape serious injury. She was taken to a doctor for review.
Police believe the suspect is a DUI, but the cause and reason of the rampage are still undetermined. When the investigation has begun, fees are anticipated.
A photo allegedly showing the suspect being taken into custody from beyond quickly became popular online, showing a female wearing a black hoodie being led away by police, adding to the public’s fury.
A picture of total panic was captured on drone footage and on-the-ground picture, with broken furniture, distorted furniture, police tape flapping in the breeze, and dozens of emergency vehicles circling what was once a safe haven for kids.
Governor JB Pritzker stated that his presidency was” closely monitoring the tragedy,” saying,” Weld our arms around Chatham now.”
The Illinois State Police and Chatham Police Department are currently looking through the information to know what caused the tragic accident, which left residents inundated with questions about how such violence could hit so directly at the scene.
