The last screams of a Californian woman were eeriely captured on a voice after the brutal murder of her ex-girlfriend in a violent knife attack.
In September 2020, Craig Charron, 39, was found guilty of murdering 25-year-old Laura Sardinha at her Huntington Beach residence, just days after she had her doors changed and obtained a restraining order against him. As had many people before her, the actions she took that day were reflections of years of living in fear.
Sardinha and her family and best friend were talking on the phone when Charron abruptly appeared in her house carrying some blades. Before the column went dead, she yelled in stress,” Oh my God, he’s around.” Her companion rang 911 right away.
Events later, Sardinha attempted to call back and left a spooky 37-second voice. She may get heard yelling,” He’s gonna kill me,” in it! and frantically yelling” Get away from me”!
According to the New York Post,” You hear a lady narrating her death if you listen to it thoroughly,” said Orange County Deputy District Attorney Janine Madera to the judge during the closing arguments.
Jurors were able to witness Charron launching a vicious assault that stabbed Sardinha numerous occasions. He plunged a knife twice into her neck, almost severed her head, and slammed her in the brain with such power that the blade of the tomato knife bent.
Sardinha had died, and Charron had a neck and chest scars that were visible when police arrived. These were self-inflicted, according to the prosecution, as part of an effort to make it appear as though she had attacked him.
Charron, a veteran of the Air Force and former fight medic, claimed he had little memory of the day and that he had acted in self-defense.
However, the behavior patterns that were revealed by the prosecution were disconcerting. Sardinha had told a friend earlier that morning that Charron had woken her up and demanded dental intercourse. He never leaves, she recorded a short video in which she said,” Please get away from me.”
After spotting him near, she later hid in the leasing office for her apartment complex. She was given keys to change the locks by team, but investigators believe Charron could have re-enter the door if it had been left opened later in the day.
Three of Charron’s former colleagues testified in court, each bringing up instances of abuse that resemble one another. One woman claimed that he chomped on her and hit her with a beverage drink. All had recently obtained restraining commands against him.
Sardinha’s crime has raised serious questions about intimate partner violence and the devastation caused by repeated warnings that go unanswered, and Charron is currently facing sentencing for it.
