A group of 15 people are being detained by the U.S. Coast Guard early on Wednesday night, according to Fox News, who are suspected of trying to enter the country illegally by lake near San Diego. A 20-foot cabin-style ship was spotted about 10 miles north of Point Loma, according to a Coast Guard press release that the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m.
11 people and 4 women, all of whom had Latino nationalities, were on board the ship. After being detained, Coast Guard employees transferred the party to Border Patrol agents for further investigation.
This incident follows a significant immigration protection functioning, known as Operation Tidal Wave, in Florida. In a single year, the function resulted in over 1,100 arrests. During the crackdown, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) in Miami collaborated closely with regional law enforcement.
Nearly 800 prosecutions were reported by authorities within the first four weeks of Operation Tidal Wave. A Chilean national with a death faith, alleged members of the MS-13 and 18th Street groups, as well as a Russian national wanted by Interpol for murder, were among those detained.
Authorities have apprehended tens of thousands of unlawful immigrants since President Trump’s opening. According to Fox News, “more than 1,300 of those arrested were accused or convicted of sex acts, and 498 were accused or convicted of murder,” in addition to group members.
