A Kremlin-declared three-day peace to correspond with Russia’s World War II Victory Day festivities began at nightfall on Thursday. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s get aims to mark the 80th anniversary of what Moscow calls the” Excellent success”. The peace is set to run until the close of Saturday. Ukraine, nevertheless, has rejected the peace openly. Authorities in Kyiv called it a symbolic walk with no real intention to stop the fighting. Instead, they have called for a long, 30-day ceasefire—one that they think may provide significant alleviation to civilians caught in the conflict. Russian officials argue that Russia has repeatedly violated past peace agreements, including a new 30-hour wait over Easter, during which they allege lots of transgressions occurred. Yet hours before the peace was due to start, both flanks exchanged flying problems. Russian long-range drone strikes disrupted flights at Moscow’s major airports for the next day in a column on Wednesday. Russia closed several airports in anticipation of strikes, and Ukrainian authorities confirmed at least two deaths from Russian assaults. The Kremlin stated that Russian forces will observe the ceasefire unless attacked. The announcement follows failed attempts by US President Donald Trump to broker a more permanent peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv. Trump had pushed for an unconditional ceasefire in March, which was rejected by Putin.
