Who was Bassel al-Araj – Palestinian activist at the centre of the Columbia library protest

On Wednesday, masked activists from Columbia University stormed the primary library building and distributed brochures and flags honoring Bassel al-Araj. The demonstrations ‘ names were changed to the” Basel Al-Araj Popular University,” as part of a group reportedly connected to the radical activist network Unity of Fields. The protesters reportedly passed around papers that described al-Araj as a “militant intellectual.” Scientific errors were included in the flyers, including a misspelled name. Basil was a violent intellectual who was intellectual. In fact, he was so great that the phrase” The Radical Intellectual” is used to describe him in particular,” the paper read. Bassel al-Araj, who was he?

    • Bassel al-Araj was a Israeli author and activist well-known for his role in anti-occupation demonstrations.
    • According to Al Jazeera, he frequently participated in non-violent rallies against Israel’s growth of the parting wall and settlements.
    • He and five others were detained by the Israeli government in April 2016 on suspicion of planning attacks against Israeli targets and of holding unregistered weapons.
    • Al-Araj and the others carried out a poverty strike while they were being held, alleging torture. Nine days later, they were unofficially detained.
    • Al-Araj fled to safety after his discharge. In Ramallah in March 2017, Jewish forces tracked him down and killed him in a attack on the home where he was staying. Israel claimed that he was a member of a despair body that was putting together problems.
