The Federal Emergency Management Agency‘s temporary president, Cameron Hamilton, was fired less than a day after telling Congress he did not think the company may be shut down.
Days after Hamilton had posted on X on Thursday evening, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed to the Washington Examiner that he was no more the mind of FEMA and that he was eager to continue working there.
According to a statement from the DHS,” Mr. David Richardson will be the top established performing the duties of the Administrator.”
Hamilton told House members on the budget commission for country surveillance on Wednesday evening that he did not believe the company should be abolished. Trump, who has demanded the organization’s destruction, took a tear with the comment.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) questioned Hamilton about whether the Trump presidency intended to end FEMA and whether he thought it should be shut down.
Hamilton responded that position work couldn’t replace FEMA because it was important.
I don’t think it’s in the best interests of the Americans to abolish the Federal Emergency Management Agency because I’m the senior adviser to the president on tragedies and crisis management and the secretary of homeland security, Hamilton said. Having said that, I am hardly able to make decisions and influence results.
The remarks were in line with Trump and his cohort’s steadfast antagonism to FEMA. Trump said he would quickly begin the process of reforming FEMA or getting rid of FEMA during a trip to North Carolina on January 24.
Trump said,” I think we’re going to suggest that FEMA go apart.” ” I want to see the state deal with tragedies.
Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL ) brought up earlier remarks made by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Wednesday.
Secretary Noem stated that she wants to remove FEMA, and President Trump said that it could “go away,” according to Underwood. Let me be clear: FEMA’s elimination may result in catastrophic and senseless struggling for the American public.
Hamilton discussed changes he would make to the organization, including allowing local and state governments to lead disaster response efforts, utilizing novel methods to achieve survivors, and improving FEMA’s domestic operational readiness.
This disaster recovery has been transformed into slow, expensive, and grueling processes thanks to red tape, administrative inertia, and top-down sub management, according to Hamilton. Under President Trump’s authority, it was for this reason that I was hired to redirect this institution in order to better serve the British citizens.

In a post to X, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX ) criticized Hamilton’s firing, calling it a “loss for America.”
” I know @CameronVA and he is a great American, a senior, and a friend. He was actively and honestly serving his country, including advocating for FEMA reformation that would make it possible to survive the hurricane season, Roy wrote. This is a reduction for America, they say.
