    Sean Duffy unveils FAA plan to modernize air travel with Trump on speakerphone

    In a proceed to upgrade the country’s air traffic control system, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy unveiled a comprehensive plan to replace decades-old system to improve health, reduce delays, and help future air travel.

    Duffy urged lawmakers to secure tens of billions of dollars in funding to overhaul the world’s burdened air traffic program, citing deteriorating infrastructure, significant personnel shortages, and outdated equipment. He predicted a three to four-year reform would be required.

    ” This is bold,” Although this is going to be challenging, Duffy said as he spoke live at the Department of Transportation offices on Thursday.” We definitely can do it. ” I believe that our country, our people, and those who fly in the air deserve this opportunity to actually install an air traffic control system, one that keeps them safe,” said one of the statement.

    The program includes upgrades like upgraded fiber, mobile, and dish systems, updated hardware and software across facilities, the substitution of 618 aging radars, and the construction of six innovative control centers along with upgraded towers. One of the most difficult industries in the country will also require the cooperation of tens of thousands of health workers.

    Duffy’s announcement came after a short communication breakdown at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey between air traffic controllers and planes. On Sunday, the aircraft experienced almost 500 difficulties and 141 trip cancellations, which officials attributed to technical difficulties and staffing shortages. &nbsp,

    Air traffic controllers should be able to see that through their sections and windows, Duffy said.” We want to make sure they have the tools to keep jets separated. We’ve been in need of 3, 000 air traffic controllers for over a century, and we’re in need of 3, 000, I believe, for that reason.

    House Transportation Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO), Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-TX ), and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee ranking member Rick Larsen (D-WA ) all backed the announcement.

    Duffy estimated that the amount of funding needed could be more than$ 12 billion, but he neglected to provide a specific figure for it. He claimed that Congress must decide how to proceed and how to allocate funds.

    ” We’re going to look at some other technologies,” he said,” but fiber will be the main technology.” So I didn’t promise Elon Musk will receive or not receive anything. I’ll let this go through the operation, he said.

    The Government Accountability Office demanded that the FAA act right away to update its archaic air transportation system in a statement released in September. 51 of the 138 FAA air traffic control systems have been flagged by the GAO as no more practicable. The FAA responded by saying that many of these methods ‘ updates won’t be completed for another ten years or longer. &nbsp,

    Duffy refuted claims that the job may take 10 to 15 years, claiming that if Congress provided funding and consented to significant reforms, it could be finished in three to four years.

    ” But what we’re doing is working with the FAA, which has a great group, and we think we can accomplish this in three to four years. He said,” It’s probably closer to four than three.” However,” two things have to occur: one, we have to get the money, and two, we have to include permitting reform.”

    In November 2023, an independent board that examined the FAA determined that many of the company’s air traffic communication systems were deemed to be insufficiently developed and easily accessible.

    Duffy cited officials ‘ use of online selling sites for expensive repairs as evidence of this process.

    SEAN DUFFY TEASES AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM UPDATES

    Duffy acknowledged the lingering question of whether air traffic control upgrades might have prevented the collision in January. He emphasized, however, that in order to address the growing air congestedness above the nation’s capital, he and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are working closely together.

    We’re going to work together to determine what’s appropriate for DCA airspace and what’s appropriate for the Pentagon, Duffy said.
