A new film from Worcester, Massachusetts, has captured the violent arrest of a young girl by emigration officers, showing her face being slammed into the surface during a village attack that has sparked public indignation and renewed investigation of ICE operations. The footage, filmed by witnesses and shared online, shows chaos erupting as Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) agents attempted to detain a Brazilian woman who was with her newborn and teenage daughter. The remarkable events unfolded on Eureka Street later Thursday night, as a group of about 25 residents formed a mortal barrier around the household in an attempt to stop the arrest. Slogans of “Don’t take the family! ” and “They don’t have a permit! ” rang out, with community members demanding to discover official documents from the providers.

According to several spectators, the ICE officials claimed they did n’t need to provide a permit, fuelling more unrest. By the time nearby police arrived, the family had already been placed in an ICE car. As conflicts escalated, the woman’s 16-year-old girl still holding her baby family stood in front of the car in a determined effort to stop it from leaving. She finally handed the child to a spectator before kicking the SUV. Authorities allege the woman attempted to jump in front of the car. Moments later, soldiers tackled her to the surface. NBC Boston footage shows her being restrained with her mouth slammed into the pavement as she screamed. She was arrested on various expenses including baby destruction and resisting arrest. The baby was unharmed. Another person, Ashley Spring a member for the local school council was also arrested after allegedly pushing soldiers and throwing an unidentified water at them. She faces rape and disorderly conduct costs. City leaders have since denounced the activity. City Manager Eric Batista described the incident as “harrowing, ” while Mayor Joseph Petty called it “devastating ” and said ICE had not informed city officials in advance. “The dread of ICE tearing a family apart is the worst problem of so many in our area, ” Petty said. Worcester authorities maintain they were attempting to de-escalate the position, but local officials and immigrant rights activists are demanding an analysis into both ICE and officers do.
