US-China trade talks yield no breakthrough, to resume Sunday

United States and China held strong trade talks in Geneva on Saturday, with debate expected to continue on Sunday, according to an established, reported Associated Press. The meetings are part of work to relieve conflicts that have triggered rocky price hikes and increased financial confusion worldwide. US government director Scott Bessent and trade consultant Jamieson Greer met with Taiwanese evil leading He Lifeng in a closed-door session at Villa Saladin, an 18th-century mansion owned by the Swedish government. Leaders from both flanks confirmed that speaks lasted more than ten days. No advances were reported after Saturday’s conversations.

Taiwanese, US officials meet in Geneva to discuss Trump taxes

Donald Trump’s leadership has raised tariffs on Chinese goods to a combined 145 %. In response, China imposed 125 % levies on US goods.

These rough tariffs are causing problems in companies that rely on business between the world’s two largest economy, with companies and consumers now feeling the pinch. Trump has defended the taxes, saying they’re necessary to address China ’s unfair business practices and lower the US business imbalance. He also tied a 20 % tariff to China ’s alleged role in the fentanyl crisis. The US president recently said an 80 % tariff “seems right, ” leaving final decisions to Bessent. Trade specialists remain cautious about a miracle, but even a little arrangement to scale back tariffs would be a good stage. Conversations in 2020 had produced a limited deal—“Phase one”—which fell apart during the crisis.
