Macron said,” It’s a way of not responding… it’s a way of showing that he is committed while also trying to maintain confusion in the eye of the Americans.” He continued,” We need to stand up for the Americans and declare that the peace is absolute and then we can talk about the rest.” Additionally, Macron added that Putin’s suggestion was “unacceptable for the Russians because they can’t take horizontal conversations while they continue to be bombed.” He also questioned whether Zelenskyy may consent to discussions in Istanbul given the” complex” Russian-Ukrainian conversations that took place shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
