According to Chinese state media, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation ( CNOOC ) has discovered an oilfield in the South China Sea with proven reserves of more than 100 million tons.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, the oil in the northeast South China Sea, known as the Huizhou 19-6 oil, was about 170 kilometers ( 106 miles ) from Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, in southern China.

The oilfield’s test drilling has resulted in a normal generation of 413 barrels of crude oil and 68, 000 square feet of natural gas, the company added.

RFA was unable to independently verify the states.

According to a press release, CNOOC claimed that the revelation also was well-drilled and completed at a level of 5, 415 meters, which it termed “ultra-deep layers” and was exposed to high temperatures and stresses.

According to Peng Guangrong, a scientist at CNOOC’s Shenzhen tree, 60 % of the country’s newly discovered oil and gas reserves have been produced in profound levels, according to Xinhua.

Despite being reputed to be wealthy in oils, territorial disputes continue to dominate the South China Sea. The most recently discovered oil and gas reserves are in undisputed places, but, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

China asserts almost all of the South China Sea, which US$ 3 trillion in annual trade goes through, overlapping with those of the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Brunei in terms of sovereignty says. An international arbitration court in 2016 invalidated the foundation for China’s wide territorial claims in a situation brought by the Philippines, but Beijing has continued to ignore the decision.

The Chinese news on the fuel industry came days after Pentagon director Pete Hegseth met with his Filipino rival Gilberto Teodoro and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday in Manila as part of Hegseth’s Asia-Pacific trip that also included Guam and Japan.

Hegseth reaffirmed Washington’s “ironclad” responsibility to its security agreement with the Philippines and said it would use advanced military functions to bolster deterrent against challenges, including Taiwanese “aggression.”

In light of the threats coming from the communist Chinese, “deterrence is required around the world, but especially in this region, in your nation,” Hegseth said.

In order to improve issue preparation, the United States, Japan, and the Philippines conducted joint naval drills close to the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea on the same day. A Chinese martial ship apparently kept an eye on the activities from a distance.

A Chinese ship once made an attempt to approach the location where three allied governments ‘ ships and aircraft were conducting maneuvers.

The Chinese ship was forced to stay away by a Philippine frigate’s television alert, yet.

A select party of Manila-based internet members were given the opportunity to observe the training at sea for the first time since these combined naval exercises, known as the Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity, began last month.

On Friday, China said it conducted a military guard in the South China Sea.
