According to Pentagon information provided to Congress, the Trump administration spent more than$ 21 million on the transportation of immigrants to the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base as part of a contentious emigration assault. The data was made public in response to questions from Massachusetts Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren and a part of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The US Transportation Command operated 46 military planes to Guantanamo Bay between January 20 and April 8 for an average of$ 26, 277 per hour, or 802.5 flight time. This brought the entire cost, in the opinion of CBS News, to about$ 21 million. Additionally, the defence ministry disclosed that 31 further planes, most of which went to United Airlines and the company that ran the charter service Omni Air International, carried military staff, technology, and supplies. These commercial airlines did not take in workers. Guantanamo Bay will be used as a detention facility for up to 30 000 workers, according to US President Donald Trump, who gave priority to those who he called the “worst violators.” The center has only held fewer than 500 workers overall and never more than 200 at any given time, according to NBC News. Only 32 migrants are still being detained that, according to a security official cited by NBC. Many migrants who were flown to Guantanamo finally returned to the US or were transferred elsewhere, which undermines the administration’s commitment to a long-term holding strategy. According to CBS News, both high-risk and low-risk people had been detained at the bottom in accordance with wide criteria established by the administration, which raised legal and social concerns. The department of homeland security, which supports the project, had operational issues, inside disagreements, and received criticism from lawmakers. It was dubbed” Operation Southern Guard.” Every American may remain outraged that Donald Trump cheated on taxpayer money by using defense funds to fund his political feats that don’t make us safer, Warren said in a statement. Due to the backlash and higher fees, DHS suspended military imprisonment planes on March 1 and switched to commercial airlines, which were deemed more affordable, according to The Independent. The organization has also introduced a voluntary self-deportation program through the CBP Home app, which will grant undocumented immigrants who choose to voluntarily leave the country$ 1, 000, with the goal of lowering deportation costs by up to 70 %. Despite these changes, the US travel command has ordered an additional regular flight to Guantanamo, according to NBC News.
