According to White House officials, US President Donald Trump will meet with Ahmedal-Sharaa, the newly appointed president of Syria, on Wednesday during his trip to Saudi Arabia. According to Bloomberg, the conference is significant because Bashar al-Assad’s government was overthrown in December by Sharaa’s rebel group. Sharaa, who is attempting to persuade the US to raise restrictions on Syria, considers the meeting with Trump to be important. Sharaa hopes that this meeting may give her the utilize she needs to secure US help because the sanctions have had a significant impact on the country’s economy since the war. Trump will travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates this year as part of his journey. He wants to secure billions of dollars in expenditures from these nations while also promoting his contribution to stabilizing the area and bringing about peace. Saudi Arabia has much urged the US to slap sanctions on Syria to aid in its reconstruction and keep it within the Egyptian sphere of influence. This is especially crucial now that Iran’s effect has diminished since Assad’s regime’s fall. Arab Americans and numbers close to the Trump administration have supported Sharaa’s efforts to transition to a new management in addition to Saudi assistance. But, Sharaa’s prior has sparked concerns. He again had ties to al-Qaeda, and his followers are radical Islamists, which has spooked both the US and Israel as a result of the new government’s approach. The Arab leader’s efforts were halted earlier this year when authorities loyalists attacked and killed hundreds of minority Alawites. This conflict has made Sharaa’s campaign for global recognition more difficult. Despite these difficulties, Sharaa’s political efforts have persisted. He met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris next month, which was his first trip outside the Middle East since taking business.
