NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Punjab airport Adampur and had a conversation with Indian Air Force staff. Only weeks after Operation Sindoor was launched, the visit was made. Prime Minister Modi described his appointment with the Jawans as a” specific experience” and expressed profound gratitude to the armed troops on behalf of all Indians for their nation-serving service. The Bangladeshi military targeted the Adampur airbase on Wednesday, and it was one of the important military locations that the airbase was constantly involved in during Operation Sindoor. After Hindon Air Force Station, India’s second-largest airfield is Adampur. It serves as a base for MiG-29 jets and houses the formidable S-400 air defense system, also known as the” Sudarshan Chakra.” Wing Commander Wyomika Singh disputed Pakistan’s claims that the S400 air defense system had been destroyed during a press conference on Saturday, calling them part of a harmful propaganda campaign by Pakistan. She added that all such claims are false. In World War II, Adampur and the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur bridge served as the site of the little airstrip that the Air Force Station Adampur served. It was given the name No. 305 Wing on March 16, 1950, and was afterwards renumbered as No. 8 Wing in 1956. The airport, which housed MiG-29 fighter jets for many years, was a crucial part in the India-Pakistan warfare of 1965 and 1971. Additionally, it supported businesses during the 1999 Kargil fight, when fighter jet from Adampur, including Orbs from No. Tiger Hill, Muntho Dhalo, and Tololing were the targets of the 7 Squadron’s cuts. The Airports Authority of India ( AAI ) constructed a civil airport close to the airbase in Kandola village at a cost of Rs 18 crore to support regional air connectivity. Following site examination and certification from the Indian Air Force, the Centre granted the job its approval in July 2015. Commercial flights started on May 1st, 2018, when SpiceJet started offering services via a momentary terminal as part of the UDAN regional connectivity initiative.
