Donald Trump pleaded with the pleasant group at Macomb Community College in Michigan to allow Chinese automakers to also construct their vehicles in America.

He said the same point last year on the campaign trail. In Dayton, Ohio, he told supporters in March 2024, “I’ll tell Chinese automakers that if they want to create a flower in Michigan, Ohio, or South Carolina, they can do it.”

This is usually a very good plan. It may assist in rebalancing the uneven business balance between China and the United States. However, China’s approval of building its vehicles in the United States has a drawback.

According to City Journal, “every fresh car, whether electric or internal combustion, is inextricably linked to technology parts, which govern all from ignitions to anti-lock driving systems.” Some vehicles are referred to as” smartphones on wheels,” such as Tesla and the Chinese EVs BYD and Xiaomi.

Beyond the obvious, there is the plain fact that all vehicles are produced in China and around the globe. They does contain some script written in China. It’s definitely good, but what about the prospect? The truth is that Chinese intelligence has the power to compel any Chinese firm to cooperate and to demand their data at any time. &nbsp,

Apple and Amazon have equipment that contains Chinese spy cards, according to a report from CNBC a few years back.

In 2023, Electropages reported that” Investigation Reveals the Presence of Secret Devices in Government Cars.”

China’s use of monitoring and other security systems in automobiles is not new. So the true question becomes: Why take a chance if the Chinese sell a few million cars?

The cross-border supply chain presents a fantastic opportunity for Chinese intelligence to obtain sizable amounts of data about Americans.

Due to this level of connectivity, vehicles are more vulnerable to hacking, malware, backdoors, and other types of penetration. Trump should consider granting the green light to Chinese script even though he appears material with the idea of Chinese trucks traveling on British roads. If given the right motivation and option, China’s state-backed hackers, including of crucial systems like power networks, could be used to attack American auto infrastructure.

People’s Liberation Army organizers are known to be proud of “assassin’s mace” weapons, which are tools designed to pass an enemy’s strength by introducing surprise and symmetry. A mass-market ship that has been slowly embedded in a compromised electrical software stack might be a good example of one of these.

Imagine a situation whereby American roads were immediately racked up like used smartphones or, more gently, had their navigation systems slammed. The tail-risks of problems like these can only increase as self-driving capabilities and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication grow.

The Chinese have now strewn across the country’s transport, water, and electricity system. &nbsp,

The automobile industry in China is a “vector of national security vulnerability,” according to Jordan McGillis of City Journal. Before we invite Chinese automakers ( and Chinese intelligence ) through America’s front door, this should undoubtedly be taken into account. &nbsp,
