A British Bank of America scientist was reportedly sentenced to ten years in a Saudi Arabian jail for his role in a recently deleted social media post, according to his attorney. Ahmed al-Doush, 41, is facing charges stemming from a deleted 2018 statement about Sudan that did not mention Saudi Arabia and his connection with the exiled child of a Royal writer, according to Amnesty International in a statement released on Tuesday. After being accused of breaking anti-cyber crime and terrorism rules, the father-of-four was sentenced on Monday. Haydee Dijkstal, al-Doush’s international guidance, posted the tweet on X on Tuesday,” The actual tweet is unfamiliar.” ” His prosecution and confinement entails fair test and due process transgressions,” he said. The prosecutor argued that the United Kingdom state” may stand strongly against a European national’s prison for allegedly exercising his free speech rights.” The state of Saudi Arabia did not respond to requests for comment. A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office in London stated in a statement that” we are supporting a British person who is detained in Saudi Arabia and are in touch with his family and local government. Al-Doush, a European national, was detained in Riyadh aircraft in August of this year as he attempted to travel to Manchester, England with his family. His family has since given birth to their fifth child. Before his sentencing, al-Doush’s spouse, Amaher Nour, cited his thyroid difficulties and problems after nine months of confinement, saying,” I seldom speak to my father, but in the few snatched meetings we have managed, it is obvious that Ahmed is struggling.” The developments occurred while US President Donald Trump was in Saudi Arabia, where many dual citizens with European relationships and Saudis have been detained in recent years over social media posts that might be critical of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the government’s de facto ruler.
