Europe’s development banks announced on Wednesday that France does add 10 million euros to repair a radiation support at the Ukrainian atomic plant that is suspected of being struck by a Russian drone. The amount, which is equivalent to$ 11.2 million, was disclosed at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( EBRD )’s annual conference in London. In a February strike that did not result in any rays being released, Russia has claimed that it used an incendiary drone to attack the power plant’s containment vault. The worst nuclear accident in history occurred in 1986 when a reactor at Chernobyl exploded during a careless security check, sending clouds of energy across much of Europe and forcing tens of thousands of people to flee. France has offered money following the incident this year to” aid the recovery of the important features of” the handle, known as the New Safe Confinement. The EBRD, established in 1991 to assist former Soviet bloc countries embrace free-market markets, claimed that the attack rendered techniques designed to ensure the NSC’s 100-year longevity were non-operational and significantly increased the risk of further deterioration in the lack of timely emergency repairs. The EBRD stated that it” will assist measures to repair the exterior cladding to quit the ingress of water” thanks to funding from France. Work will be done to recover the facility’s primary flexibility to reduce the launch of additional poisoned dust, the bank added.” In the longer term, work will be done to reduce the release of contaminated dust into the environment. The EBRD-managed International Chernobyl Cooperation Account, which had previously been funded by 25 million euros, is strengthened by France’s pledge. Pierre Heilbronn, the special envoy for Ukraine reconstruction for French President Emmanuel Macron, said the contribution “exemplifies France’s longstanding support for Ukraine.” The Guardian reported that the repairs could cost tens of millions of euros, and that French companies had a significant role in the construction of the NSC (up until its completion in 2019 ). On Wednesday, the EBRD stated that it was too soon to say how much the cost of fixing the cover would be.
