May is National Awareness Month and National Stroke Awareness Month, according to Mayo Clinic health care professionals. In the United States, there are 40 to 40 strokes per second, and the risk of a injury increases as you get older, according to the National Institutes of Health.

A crucial component of health care is preventing a injury, since approximately 80 % of all stroke can be prevented. The emphasis is placed on controlling risk elements to lower the long-term risk of stroke.

A blocked or torn heart vessel causes a stroke and lowers blood flow to the brain. A injury is a major cause of death and disability in the United States.

We actually focus on prevention because about 80 % of strokes can be prevented, says Dr. Stephen English, a Mayo Clinic neurosurgeon.

Maintaining blood pressure below 130/8 0 and keeping cholesterol and blood sugar at appropriate levels are some tips for lowering stroke risk.

” Some other modifiable hazards include things like smoking cessation, sleep apnea treatment with a CPAP machine, and some other possible treatments,” he says. We want to prevent stroke threat in the long run by reducing the risk factors.

There are unchangeable risk factors for injury. Age, gender, race, and community history are among them. There are four non-modifiable risk factors that we normally consider. The first is time, ideally greater than 55, men, those with a story of previous strokes in the home, and then those of African American descent,” says Dr. English.
