Why the First Lady’s Foster Care Initiative Matters

First Lady Melania Trump secured a$ 25 million investment in President Trump’s FY26 budget earlier this month to provide housing and support for young people who are leaving foster care. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD) gave money to the Agency’s Foster Youth to Independence program ( FYI ) in recognition of the seventh anniversary of Mrs. Trump’s BE BEST initiative. &nbsp, &nbsp,

The first girl stated that the money will be used to support” stability and self-sufficiency through designated rental assistance and other supportive service.”

Although the money in itself is fantastic, Mrs. Trump and the White House’s announcement will finally lighten a topic that isn’t covered much: the 23, 000 or but children who are yearly thrown out of the foster care system. &nbsp,

When you have the assistance of a traditional home, transitioning from career as a teenager to an adult is difficult enough when you turn 18 ( or 21 in some state ). It can be a dream for children in foster care. Additionally, it may cause instability for the entire lifetime. &nbsp,

Although different resources provide various figures, none of them are mainly comforting. About half of all poor people claim to have spent their entire lives in the foster care system, and about 20 % of these children are poor right away. Additionally, 25 % of 17-year-olds who were in foster care say they have experienced homelessdom at some point in the past two decades. &nbsp,

Finding a place to live is not all that important. People who leave the foster care system are more likely to develop dependency on ingredients like alcohol and drugs. According to a study from the Journal of Adolescent Health, children in care are two times more likely than adults to employ illicit drugs, five times more likely than adults to use illicit drugs, and up to four times more likely than adults to have other substance use disorders.

Around 70 % of women who leave the foster care system may become pregnant before the age of 21. Before the age of 21, boys are more likely to conceive a person. &nbsp,

Many of them are imprisoned. According to a study of 21-year-olds who were in foster care when they turned 18 and were in foster care, 16 % of them had been incarcerated within the previous two years. In 2016, 9 % of all federal prisoners and 8 % of all people in state prisons had experienced foster care at some point in their lives. That information may be a small outdated, but it still demonstrates the bigger issue. &nbsp,

Soon teens who are foster children are less likely to receive the same training as their peers. Less than 3 % of students will earn any kind of education, while the other half will receive a high school diploma or GED. As you can see, that makes it difficult to get a job and maintain it. Only about 56 % of young people who have left the system by the age of 21 have full- or even part-time employment. Those who do not earn a living. Just half of the population will have full work by age 24. &nbsp,

Even though all of those figures are troubling, the one that bothers me the most: girls who leave foster care are 80 % more likely to engage in sex trafficking. Fostering is frequently referred to as the “pipeline to adultery.” The foster care system is present in about 60 % of the children who are involved in sexual prostitution. &nbsp,

You get the idea, but I had just keep throwing figures at you. Young people who leave the program are often successful and require more support. I’m thankful they have a friend in the White House despite the fact that I’m not sure what the answer is. &nbsp,

Although it receives little advertising attention, which is surprising, I am aware, Mrs. Trump has long advocated for foster children. Fostering the Prospect, one of her Get Perfect activities, offers scholarships to foster children. In fact, thanks to the second lady’s work, one of Mrs. Trump’s friends was Haley Ferguson, a former develop student who is now a senior early childhood education main at Middle Tennessee State University, when Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress earlier this year. &nbsp,

With any luck, Mrs. Trump will continue to highlight this matter over the next four times and give these young people the support they deserve. &nbsp,

You can always rely on the first woman to be portrayed in a positive light by the popular media below at PJ Media. I’m a huge fan of Mrs. Trump, and I’ll do everything in my power to let our viewers know what she’s up to, especially in sensitive situations like this. &nbsp,

But I need your assistance. You keep us in business as a PJ Media VIP Member, and you also get some benefits for yourself. Another license, I am aware of. But, learn me out… It costs less than$ 20 annually and averages about$ 1.63 per month. Tell me something else that you can purchase these days for$ 1.63 per month. And it’s a small price to pay to keep traditional tones like ours in the forefront when the left wants to suffocate our voices. &nbsp,
