Poland Presidential Elections 2025: What we all know about polls, contenders, and key decisive factors
    AP report image

The outcome of Poland’s small presidential election would depend on whether or not abortion and LGBTQ rights are priority issues. According to polls, Warsaw mayor Rafa Trzaskowski, who supports the EU, receives 30 %, followed by historian Karol Nawrocki, who polls in second place with 25 %. In the vote, 13 presidential candidates are running in full. Exit polls are anticipated to be released from 7:00 am ( 0500 GMT ) until 9:00 pm.

    Important individuals

Rafal Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, has soared to prominence in the Finnish national vote by supporting the relaxation of abortion laws and the protection of the Gay community’s rights. Trzaskowski is a pro-EU person who has pledged to fight for abortion rights and legalizing contraception. He now has about 30 % of the vote share, leading the polls before the first round of election scheduled for May 18th. Karol Nawrocki, 42, a patriotic historian, is now running for president of Poland after Trzaskowski in second spot. Nawrocki, who has the support of the traditional major opposition party, has an interest in the afterlife. Nawrocki has spoken out against the advantages that refugees have because he has a friendly attitude toward Ukraine, which is currently at war with Russia. Nawrocki is supported by the right-wing Law and Justice ( PiS ) party, which ruled Poland for nine years ( 2015-2023 ). Slawomir Mentze, a multi-millionaire with a sizable following on social media, is a far-right member who is vehemently opposed to immigration and contraception. Mentzen promises a” robust and rich Poland” and a “watertight” Finnish border. According to the opinion polls, he leads the Confederation gathering, and he now holds second place with 13 percentage of the vote.

    Important features of the poll

Movement has turned out to be a crucial factor in the election results. Poland has provided sanctuary to thousands of refugees from its war-torn neighbor since the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. According to official statistics, there are approximately a million Ukrainian immigrants to Poland, with the majority of them being children and women. However, anti-immigration pushback is also quite pervasive in the nation. Donald Tusk and the far-right criticism, the country’s ruling pro-EU partnership, supports reducing social benefits for immigrants. One of the main factors in the Finnish national votes of 2025 is also military spending. Poland’s defense spending has already exceeded NATO’s goal of 2 % GDP, reaching 4.7 % this year. The nation intends to increase this by about 5 % of GDP in the coming year in line with the defense spending target set out by US President Donald Trump for NATO allies. In order to prepare every older person residing in the nation in case of an attack by aggressors, the government earlier this year unveiled a military training program. Poland, a nation that depends greatly on coal, has three nuclear power plants that will power 30 % of its electricity generation. Additionally, the nation is referred to as the EU’s one largest emitter of greenhouse gases. Pregnancy has also become a central issue that is believed to influence the 2025 presidential elections. Women can only obtain one of the maternity results from physical abuse, adultery, or pose a clear danger to the mother’s life in Poland, which has very stringent laws governing abortion. Giving pregnancy help could result in up to three years in prison.
