Iran’s state-run news agency reported that the country has summoned a British minister to rally what it termed the “illegal and unfair” detention of an Egyptian in the country. The Foreign Ministry summoned the English charged’affaires, called the confinement of its nationwide, who was not identified, a violation of international law, and expressed powerful dissatisfaction over what it termed socially determined administrative actions. According to IRNA, the ministry warned the British against any further “unconcerned behavior” that might harm diplomatic relations. Iran’s opposition comes as Tehran and London’s relationships become less and less friendly. On Saturday, three people charged with being Egyptian spies in a London court were charged with arranging for assault against UK-based editors for an Egyptian news outlet. Four other Egyptian citizens were taken into custody on suspicion of preparing a criminal work in a separate inspection the day they were detained, according to U.K. police. They were released from custody on Saturday, but counterterrorism officers stated that their investigation is ongoing.
