On Sunday, violent storms ripped through parts of Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado, leaving people without electricity. The little village of Grinnell, with fewer than 300 people, was torn through by a storm in Kansas. The storm reportedly ripped off a church’s dome and destroyed a number of other structures, according to NWKS Radio. According to Lisa Mussman of the Kansas Department of Transportation, a section of Interstate 70 was shut down as a result of a power loss, according to a New York Times article. Numerous storms were reported in regions close to Denver in Colorado. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office, a cyclone slammed down at least three days near the town of Bennett, injuring 17 structures, including six homes. According to Kara Gerczynski, the public information officer for Elizabeth Fire Rescue, 19 homes were damaged and some people were left without power in Elbert County, south of Denver. In Colorado neighborhoods, cone clouds were seen moving through neighborhoods, scattering debris outside and destroying homes. More storms have been reported near the Kansas settlements of Haviland and Greensburg, according to the National Weather Service. Authorities are also assessing the extent of the damage in those locations. Some areas of Kansas were left without storm warnings on Sunday nights. According to the information from the Storm Prediction Center, the extreme weather is forecast to persist until Monday. Experts warned of additional tornadoes, strong winds, and extreme hailstorms throughout Missouri and the northern plains. On Tuesday, the risk will shift east, putting in danger the Midwest, Tennessee Valley, and Ohio Valley.
