The European parliament made a move on Wednesday to stop telemarketers from making obnoxious, unsolicited phone calls, with the legislation set to go into effect in less than a year. It will be up to a firm to demonstrate that a visit made on their behalf to an individual’s phone was made with the woman’s express consent under the policy, which was passed in a republic vote. The only circumstance would be when a business calls to renew an already-agreed commitment. 97 percent of French people are irate at the cold calling, according to a study conducted in October 2024 by the customer group UFC-Que Choisir. Telemarketers frequently use different telephone numbers from various geographical areas as a method to place calls regarding steam pumps, changing power or mobile phone providers, installing windows, or other types of transactions. After learning that a French services, Bloctel, intended to stop for spam calls, the lawmakers, supported by the government, decided to create a law against the cold-callers. Lucie Kapfer, 43, a Frenchwoman, claimed she had lost her phone after getting” many calls a week” from unintended telemarketers. However, they kept coming on my cellular phone. It was pure hell, she said, some calls per day. The number of calls to arrange false access to publicly supported methods, such as education programs or incentives for making homes more energy efficient, even worried the French government. The law will protect” the more vulnerable citizens, the elderly, and those who occasionally don’t realize that this phone abuse is only a gateway to massive fraud plans,” according to the secretary for public records, Amelie de Montchalin. The legislation is anticipated to go into effect in August 2026. Companies” does have a time to organize themselves” to comply with the law, but there won’t be any exceptions after that,” according to the senator Pierre-Jean Verzelen, who supported the measure. Spain is considering retaliation for salespeople as well. Its government announced last week that it wants telecom providers to prevent calls from businesses that don’t use a special prefix that denotes them as business callers.
