The nuclear-capable Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile ( ICBM ) launch, which can launch a nuclear weapon anywhere on Earth, was a success on Wednesday, according to the US Air Force ( USAF ). The weapon was armed when it was launched from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base at 12:01 am Pacific Time, according to a statement from USAF. The ICBM foot of the triangle is ready and the nation’s nuclear deterrent is demonstrated by this launch of an ICBM test. According to the statement, USAF General Thomas Bussiere said,” This is a part of routine and periodic activities designed to demonstrate that the United States ‘ nuclear deterrent continues to be secure, reliable, and effective in deterring 21st-century threats and reassuring our allies.”
With more than 300 comparable assessments conducted in the past, Bussiere continued,” This check is part of the country’s continued commitment to maintaining a reliable barrier and is not a response to current world events,” he continued. The weapon traveled 1,200 miles per hour to the Marshall Islands ‘ Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site, according to the statement. The Marshall Islands are a dispersed group of volcanic archipelago in the center of the Pacific Ocean, which are located between the Philippines in Asia and Hawaii, in the United States. The Air Force intends to change the LGM-35A Sentinel program with the Minuteman, a program from the 1970s. Until LGM is at full capacity, Minuteman III will serve as a “viable disincentive.”
