Iran-US 5th round of nuclear talks: Highest-level engagement amidst escalating tensions in Rome
Rome is where Iran and the US are scheduled to hold their second round of deals.

The second round of radioactive negotiations between Iran and the United States is taking place in Rome, Italy, right now. Following a people dispute over Tehran’s uranium enrichment program during the past square in Muscat, the meeting was held. The meeting’s goal is to address the growing hostility between nations. The US and Iran have engaged in the highest level of communication since Washington withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal during US President Donald Trump‘s second term in 2018. Trump has resumed his “maximum force” campaign on Iran since taking office on January 20. He has backed the continued discussions, but he also warned that military action is still possible if political efforts are unsuccessful. Iran anticipates a fresh agreement that will ease restrictions, which have had a significant impact on its economy. US Middle East minister Steve Witkoff claimed that Washington” could never allow even one percent uranium advancement by Iran.” Tehran has vehemently rejected this position. Iranian officials contend that they have the legal right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes under the Non-Proliferation Treaty ( NPT ).

    There are still significant disparities:

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, acknowledged that there are still “fundamental distinctions” between Tehran and Washington ahead of the arranged meeting. He likewise indicated a willingness to sacrifice, saying that Iran is ready to allow for more nuclear facility checks. He continued,” We will not have an agreement at all if the United States wants to prevent Iran from enriching uranium,” citing these differences, which come before the IAEA’s ( IAEA ) meeting scheduled for June and the JCPOA’s ( Japan’s ) expiration in October. The JCPOA aims to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, a claim that European nations have made. Tehran, but, disputes it. Iran was spared from global sanctions in exchange for limiting its nuclear program. The agreement was jeopardized in 2018 when US President Trump withdrawn arbitrarily from it. Iran increased its nuclear activities as a reaction. It is now enriched to 60 % of the total, which is significantly higher than the 3.67 % cap set by the agreement but still below the 90 % required to produce a nuclear bomb.

    Iran’s steadfast position:

Iran is unlikely to give up, according to authorities in Tehran. According to Mohammad Marandi, a previous nuclear director and political scientist,” there can be no deal” if the US wants Iran to stop enriching uranium, just like there are other nations that do so for peaceful uses. Countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, South Korea, Brazil, and Japan enrich (uranium ) without having nuclear weapons, according to its spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi. The US supports Iran and Israel, which remain a significant issue in the discussions. The US government, according to Iran’s foreign secretary, will be involved and bear legal responsibility in any assault on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear features in the wake of the White House’s “productive conversation” with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Iran and the latest shooting of two Israeli military employees in Washington.
