Under a costs signed by Governor… New Hampshire cities and towns may be prohibited from enacting” shelter” policies limiting assistance with national immigration crackdowns. Kelly Ayotte on Thursday.

The policy forbids” sanctuary” guidelines and requires local law enforcement to hold suspects who have been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers for up to 48 days. &nbsp,

Additionally, it gives counties and local governments the ability to sign federal 287 ( g ) agreements with federal officials to actively collaborate with ICE on immigration crackdowns.

Ayotte praised legislators for passing the expenses to her office at a signing ceremony surrounded by law enforcement and legislative leaders, and blasted neighboring Massachusetts over” shelter” laws in several cities and towns, including Boston. Ayotte displayed a sign that read” Don’t Mass Up NH,” a phrase she used during her gubernatorial campaign last year.

The Republican made the remarks in which he said,” I said from the start that we wouldn’t let our position come through Massachusetts and their billion-dollar illegal immigrant crisis.” By banning shelter places and supporting law enforcement cooperation with national immigration authorities,” now, we’re delivering on our claim.”

” We will continue to work every day to be the safest state in the country,” she continued.” Nowhere will never be a sanctuary for criminals.” &nbsp,

Republicans who supported the bill’s passage argue that” sanctuary” areas promote illegal immigration and prevent criminal and criminal investigations. They argue that local authorities if collaborate with federal authorities to pursue thieves who are illegally residing in the country.

Democrats opposed the bill, arguing that native police’s ability to work with ICE officials makes neighborhoods less secure because it discourages people from reporting crimes out of fear of being deported. Local authorities don’t be required to engage with federal immigration enforcement actions, especially given the government’s recent deportations, they claimed.

Numerous towns in New Hampshire, including Manchester, have nearby ordinances that prohibit assistance with federal agents seeking illegal refugees on so-called ICE summonses, which can be either legal or legal. &nbsp, &nbsp,

The new legislation puts New Hampshire at conflict with Massachusetts and the state’s blue state, where Democrats have fought President Donald Trump’s immigration assault. &nbsp,

A state trooper contract with the Trump administration that allows state troopers to jail and prosecute immigration suspects has just been signed in New Hampshire. They have been trained and certified by federal immigration officials.
