According to the Trump administration, Columbia University “acquired a civil rights violation” because it “acted with deliberate indifference toward Israeli student abuse from October 7, 2023 to the present.”

The Health and Human Services Department made the announcement on Thursday night, claiming, among other things, that” Columbia consistently failed to protect Jewish kids” because it didn’t implement successful investigating methods for hatred until the summers of 2024.

The results properly record the hostile atmosphere Jewish students at Columbia University have endured for more than 19 months, preventing their education, health, and well-being, according to Anthony Archeval, acting director of the Office for Civil Rights at HHS. We encourage Columbia University to collaborate with us to travel to a conclusion that incorporates important adjustments that will really safeguard Jewish individuals.

Apart from the more than$ 400 million in grants and contracts that the administration has already suspended, it’s not clear whether the administration will put any sanctions on Columbia. We understand that this finding is being discussed with the state, according to a university spokesman who spoke to the New York Times.

The False Claims Act may increase Columbia’s punishment, according to the Trump administration.

The Trump administration has been able to accuse institutions of scams for accepting federal funds because of their compliance with civil rights laws as a result of the work, which allows the authorities to restore lost funds from fraud and establish penalties.

Due to racial discrimination, lack of protection against school racism, and allowing trans athletes to compete in children’s sports, the Trump management has discovered that many institutions, especially schools, violate civil rights laws, including Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX.

Columbia, which was the center of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations last year, has been accused of allowing hatred to take place on its campus for decades.

HHS also claimed that Columbia failed to properly respond to complaints from Hebrew students, didn’t follow its policies when addressing misconduct against Jews, did not look into or condemn racist theft, or put in place time, place, and method restrictions for protests held on school.
