Power outage hits France, impacts Cannes film festival; probe underway

Cannes, which is already hosting its annual international film festival, was affected by a significant authority cut across France on Saturday. Police are looking into a alleged fire attack. No arrests have been made at this time, according to a spokeswoman for the French National Gendarmerie.” We are looking into the likelihood of a fireplace be started deliberately,” the spokesperson said. Local authorities in the Alpes-Maritimes territory reported earlier on Saturday that 160, 000 homes in the west were being severely impacted by a power outage, including Cannes. According to Reuters, RTE France was actively attempting to restore electric support to the affected areas. As reported by RTE on X, a widespread power outage occurred in France’s Alpes-Maritimes region starting at 10 a.m. local time ( 4 a.m. ET ). Power was subsequently restored by 4: 30 p. m. local time ( 10: 30 a. m. ET ). Specialists in the area claimed the shutdown was an accident. According to Alpes-Maritimes local government, the affair appeared to be the result of a “double work of sabotage,” according to Mandelieu-La Napoule’s president, Sébastien Leroy, who posted a Facebook photo of the incident. The Alpes-Maritimes director, Laurent Hottiaux, issued a statement vehemently denouncing” these severe acts of harm.” The power outage occurred on the evening of the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which had the opening ceremony scheduled for the evening. The Cannes Film Festival organizers gave the assurance that the closing meeting would go as planned on Saturday night. The Palais des Festivals has switched to an independent power source, allowing all scheduled events and checks, including the Closing Ceremony, to go as planned and in ordinary circumstances, according to a statement from them.
