Truck drivers across Iran continue rare strike for sixth consecutive day
    Representative Figure

On Tuesday, truck drivers in Iran for the fifth day in a row demanded better working conditions in a sector crucial to the nation’s economy. This is the result of a unique and protracted strike. Although Iran’s law permits work strikes, this protest’s scope and persistence are uncommon. According to Persian-language internet and checking organizations outside Iran, the attack, which started in the southwest port city of Bandar Abbas, has quickly spread to other countries, with reports of interruptions in Isfahan, Shiraz, Tehran Province, and Kermanshah. According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency ( HRANA ), drivers are frustrated by rising insurance premiums, low freight rates, high fuel prices, and poor road safety. Although these images have not been individually verified, they did appear to show rows of empty vehicles in big cities when shared on social media. The Fars Province attorney confirmed the arrests of people allegedly blocking roads, and the right team Dadban reported instances of security forces confronting protesters. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf acknowledged the drivers ‘ crucial part in the supply network and urged the government to solve their problems as soon as possible. The state-aligned paper Kayhan dismissed the attack as being “manipulated by opportunistic parts.” For the distribution of food across Iran’s large terrain, road transportation is essential.
