Over 100 drones were intercepted later on Tuesday and early on Wednesday across several regions, including close to the capital, according to Russian authorities, who say they resisted a significant Ukrainian drone attack. 112 Russian drones were “destroyed and intercepted” across six regions in three hours, according to a blog from the Russian Defense Ministry on Telegram, just before midnight. Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Tula, Oryol, and Kaluga were among the crucial locations that the robots targeted. According to AFP, a drone attack on the capital caused temporary flight punishments at Vnukovo and Zhukovsky terminals, citing Russia’s national aerospace transport agency. The Bryansk area, according to the defense ministry, was hit hardest by 59 drones heading the country’s southwest near the Ukrainian border. Following Ukraine’s earlier this week’s report that it had experienced the most powerful wave of Soviet drone strikes since the invasion of 2022, this large-scale drone attack was carried out. Ukraine claimed that Russia launched more than 900 robots, killing 13 civilians, including three kids, in just three days, leading up to Monday. Although Russian authorities often report helicopter activity, it’s uncommon to see such a large number of drones flying over such a large area and in such a short period of time. Moscow, which is a few kilometers from the Polish border, is rarely the target of large-scale assaults, despite recent weeks when flights have been diverted due to airport threats. The Russian defense ministry announced on Tuesday that it launched drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian civil installations in response to what it termed a “provocation” in Ukraine.
