In one of France’s largest child sex abuse cases, a French court will rule on Wednesday in the prosecution of a doctor who admitted to sexually abusing lots of patients over the course of more than 20 years. Joel Le Scouarnec, 74, is currently imprisoned after receiving a sentence in 2020 for raping and sexually assaulting four kids, including two of his sisters. In this test, which first commenced in February, he admitted biologically assaulting or raping 299 people in northern France between 1989 and 2014, many of whom were awakened from businesses or under anesthesia. Le Scouarnec is facing a 111 rape count and 189 sexual assault counts, making him one of the most talented convicted sexual predators in French history. Around 60 attorneys have represented the patients. One of the victims, Amelie Leveque, told AFP,” I hope the ruling will be proportionate to the atrocities he committed.” The physician’s case highlights systemic flaws that allowed Le Scouarnec to commit sexual crimes frequently, say victims and kid rights advocates. The retired doctor was ordered by prosecutor Stephane Kellenberger on Friday to serve a maximum sentence of 20 years, and he was also made to demand that he be kept in a facility for treatment and supervision also after his release.
Big pervert:
Le Scouarnec said in his closing statement on Monday in Vannes, in the northern area of Brittany, that” I am not asking the court for leniency.” Just offer me the right to improve myself,” he said. The verdict will be announced starting at noon ( 1100 GMT ), and it will be rendered by presiding judge Aude Buresi. Even when there are many victims, French law prohibits sentences from being added up. Maxime Tessier, one of the attorneys, requested that the court take into account the “exceptional” character of Le Scouarnec’s statement when he admitted all the charges against him in March. The retired doctor added that he felt “responsible” for the deaths of two of his victims, Mathis Vinet, who passed away in a murder overdose in 2021, and another guy who was discovered dead in 2020. Le Scouarnec kept records of his acts, recording the names, ages, names, and types of abuse committed by his victims. The physician described himself as a “major weirdo” and a “paedophile” in his information. And I’m very pleased about it, he declared.
Partisans ‘ bombs:
Le Scouarnec has asked his subjects for forgiveness, but many of them have questioned the honesty of his apologetics, which he repeated about mechanically throughout the prosecution, often word for word. One of the victims ‘ attorneys, Thomas Delaby, referred to him as the “atomic weapon of paedophilia,” and called him the “worst large pedophile who ever lived. The sufferers” will never be able to forgive you.” Never, Delaby told the accused. Who are you trying to persuade to change, exactly? said another attorney, Delphine Caro. A second attorney, Giovanni Bertho-Briand, remarked that “admitting whatever is admitting nothing.” The doctor worked for decades before retiring in 2017, despite receiving a 2005 word for possessing sexually abusive images of children and colleagues who raised concerns. Le Scouarnec may face a second trial in the future, the common prosecutor said in his final statement. The retired doctor’s case has attracted two inquiries from the Lorient people lawyer’s office, one of which concerns “possibly unidentifiable or previously reported victims” of physical assault and murder. Some people are upset that the test hasn’t had the desired effect in France. Dominique Pelicot was imprisoned last year for arranging numerous strangers to murder his then ex-wife Gisele, whose case has received less attention than the one involving the case.
