Pinning ‘Jell-O to the wall’: Democrats in search of anti-Trump strategy that sticks

Democrats are unable to agree on a winning strategy to beat Republicans in the 2026 congressional elections to face President Donald Trump, who is stymied by bickering, blame, and astonishment following the election losses of 2024.

Liberals do not have a message that the consumer will understand about the party and Trump. More than six months after Trump defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election last year and became the first Republican to get the popular vote in 20 years.

Democrat strategist Stefan Hankin described the group’s concept to the Washington Examiner as” I don’t think we know” and how it does respond to Trump. There is too much; it simply keeps evolving. Like, how do you wire Jell-O to the walls?

Hankin advised Liberals to” consider a little bit of everything.” Another party strategists are equally convinced that Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful bill” may have a negative impact socially.

Before the Senate considers the measure by imposing a Fourth of July date, those Liberals are underscoring how the House incarnation of the bill, which was passed last year, disregards Medicare, food aid programs, and fees for the wealthy.

After the passage of the act, fresh Democratic National Committee president Ken Martin declared to reporters,” Democrats will do everything we is to remove those who are in charge of this.” ” We have Americans at our part,” he said.

Because his political action committee primary-raises Democratic incumbents, the DNC is attempting to remove vice president David Hogg from his command place at the same time.

Hogg’s support for the party’s main problems and criticisms of it comes after the late Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, who passed away last week, giving House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) the opportunity to pass Trump’s budget bill last Thursday by one vote, 215-214.

According to Hogg,” to some elected leaders in the Democratic Party are either unwilling or unable to match the time and are asleep at the wheel while Trump is demolishing the market, challenging the foundations of our democracy, and creating innovative philosophical crises for our country by the day.” Liberals can be trusted to fight for us, or we can change them with more experienced, younger officials.

The Democrat brand has been undermined in general by allegations of a cover-up of former senator Joe Biden‘s aging drop, which was promoted by the release of Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Fatal Choice to Work Once next week.

That is in addition to two other criticisms of Democrats: first, of gathering leadership for not being more vehemently opposed to Trump, and second, for being extremely dependent on consultants to formulate strategies to get back voting blocs, such as men and working-class voters.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY ) acted under pressure for his own primary challenge as he supported Trump’s legislation to keep the government open past March.

Democrats are also reportedly planning to spend$ 20 million on a project called” Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan” to” study the syntax, language, and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces,” as Harris did last year, according to the New York Times. This includes using video games and advertisements on social media platforms, as well as avoiding” a moralizing tone.”

Democrats believe they have a real chance of capturing control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections, whereas Republicans believe they have a chance to hold on to control the upper room if the Senate image favors Republicans.

Democrats ‘ early-average general balloting, compiled by RealClearPolitics, has a small 2 percentage point advantage. Even so, Trump’s approval rating has recovered since the fallout from his” Liberation Day” jobs, which initially turned into a net negative in March as industry sweltered after his levies on Canada and Mexico.

Trump has a net bad 2 stage approval rating of 48 %, despite Schumer’s need to lower it, which he suggests Republicans in Congress will add Democrats and begin to oppose his mission.

Trump’s steadfast approval rating is independent of the chaos brought on by Elon Musk‘s Department of Government Efficiency, Qatar‘s donation of a$ 400 million airplane as a temporary Air Force One, and former national security adviser Mike Waltz’s unintentional addition of a reporter to a group chat about attacks on Houthi rebels in Yemen.

A Conference Board consumer confidence statement released on Tuesday found that sentiment increased this quarter to 98, the highest reading since November, as a result of concerns over the economy.

President Trump’s” America First” economic plan, which includes taxes, tax breaks, rapid restructuring, and domestic energy production, continues to pay off, according to White House official Kush Desai, who dismissed “doomsday” estimates. Today’s consumer and consumer confidence report reflects a number of positive jobs and inflation reports released by President Trump, as well as a GDP report that revealed a significant 22 % increase in gross domestic investment in Q1 2025.

The lawless Democratic Party is still years away from electing a fresh candidate now that Trump is firmly in charge. Another issue is that the group will soon have to go through another filled main in 2028.

Some potential candidates, including former Chinese adviser, Chicago governor, and White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, are early adopters of what the Democratic message should be.

Someone has got to be articulating an agenda that’s fighting for America, not just Trump, Emanuel told the Wall Street Journal last weekend. The American dream has surpassed all other options. It is inaccessible. And that must be unacceptable for us.

The biggest obstacle to the party is conflicting messaging, according to Democratic strategist Mike Lux.

Lux told the Washington Examiner,” Part of our strategy needs to be working toward a unified message around fighting for working families.” The early Democratic leaders made the mistake of acting as though they were fighting for the status quo and not fighting hard enough. Democrats must demonstrate that they are fighting the good fight, in my opinion.

Despite that, other Democrats, including strategist Mike Nellis, are optimistic. Nellis acknowledged that the party had been “disorganized in our response to Trump for a while,” which is” changing rapidly” and adding to its “odds of taking back the House.”

Democrats are forming a consensus that Trump and his cronies are getting richer and less accountable, according to Nellis, who spoke to the Washington Examiner. He claims that he has stacked the government with incompetent loyalists who can’t even keep planes in the air, let alone keep Americans safe.

REPUBLICANS BUY DEMOCRATS FOR$ 20 MILLION “SPEAKING WITH AMERICAN MEN’S STUDY

The first Democratic strategist, Hankin, cautioned the party against being quick because” too many unknowns are moving forward.”

” The only thing I would say is, don’t do what Schumer does,” he said, referring to working with Republicans to win for Trump. ” But let’s try it all out, then, aside from that.”
