Harvard president Alan Garber admits 'we lack viewpoint diversity'

Alan Garber, president of Harvard University, acknowledged the lack of traditional voices on campus and the inability of some students and staff to communicate their “unpopular” opinions. Garber cited anti-semitism and a lack of stance diversification in an interview with NPR on Tuesday in response to recent actions by the Trump administration to thaw billions of dollars in federal funding for the Ivy League organization. The federal government, in my opinion, is calling for us to solve anti-semitism in specific, but it has raised various issues, including claims that we lack viewpoint diversity, Garber said. He also made it clear that there are issues with free speech, and that” we think it’s a real problem” when university feel like they must consider their opinions before teaching the content they are teaching. Additionally, the presidency and others have claimed that there are very few conservative students on campus and that their opinions are not acceptable. According to the New York Post,” that’s a problem we really need to address,” in all respects. When questioned if the unhappy judgment was accurate, he responded that he had heard from some people who claimed to believe that. Garber also criticized Trump for his more frequent assaults on Harvard, calling the US government’s plan “perplexing.” On Monday, Trump said he was considering turning$ 3 billion in federal grants away from the “very anti-semitic” college and aiming instead to invest the funds in business schools. The White House announced plans to terminate all pending provincial agreements with the organization the day after the announcement. Around$ 3.2 billion in grants and contracts have been frozen thus far, with the leadership accusing Harvard of failing to combat anti-semitism and engaging in alleged race-based bias in hiring and enrollment. Garber criticized the money freeze, claiming it harmed Harvard as well as regional research efforts. Why stop funding studies, you ask? After all, the study funding is not a gift, he said, adding that the money is given to institutions and other research organizations to conduct research that the federal government identifies as high-priority job. They want to do labor, they say. They pay for the work to be carried out. It’s difficult to see the connection between that and, state, anti-semitism because of the fact that stifling Harvard.
