A US judge sentenced Gujarat native Dingucha resident Harshkumar Ramanlal Patel to 10 years in prison on Wednesday for his part in a human smuggling operation that resulted in the deaths of four American immigrants in 2022. Dingucha also had the subjects. Last November, Patel was found guilty in a Minnesota national prosecutor. The judge sentenced him to ten years in prison on Wednesday for arranging an illegal border crossing that resulted in the deaths of Jagdish Patel ( 39 ), his wife Vaishaliben, their 11-year-old daughter Vihangi, and their 3-year-old son Dharmik. In severe wintertime, the household attempted to cross Canada and enter the United States. The event took place on January 19, 2022. Near Manitoba, near the US-Canada borders, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police discovered the bodies. The home intended to enter the US on a tourist visa, hoping for better options. According to the prosecution, Patel and US resident Steve Shand were a part of a smuggling system that made it illegal for Indian immigrants to cross the country. Despite having the same nickname, the subjects were not related to the accused. During sentencing, Patel allegedly remained motionless and displayed no emotion. After serving his jail sentence, he is likely to be deported to India. Although his attorney claimed he was a slight player, the prosecution claimed he had abused people’s interests for personal gain. Seven members of the same group managed to survive the cross, though some experienced extreme hypothermia. The team was badly dressed for the severe weather, according to the prosecution, relying solely on what the smugglers had provided. The incident has gotten a lot of attention in Gujarat, particularly in Dingucha, where many people have sent their children abroad in search of better lives, maybe via illegal means. The US determine referred to the deaths as “avoidable” and outlined the risks associated with trafficking.
