Following a string of police raids and arrests apparently involving Greek intelligence officers, five Turkish nationals made an appearance in court on Thursday. According to specialists, three of the arrested were charged and eventually given five-month sentences for related drug offenses, while two people were released and are still being detained for questioning. On Wednesday, a group of unidentified suspects at a petrol station opened fire at officers who were keeping them under security outside in the northern area of Thessaloniki. No injuries were reported. Officials have not made any public comments on their personality, despite reports from state-run broadcast that the soldiers were from Greece’s National Intelligence Service. Over the past two decades, there have been several gang-linked killings and other shooting incidents, and Greece is fighting a rise in crime involving Turkey organized crime groups.
