World Boxing introduces mandatory sex tests for all fighters

For both male and female soldiers who want to engage in sponsored events, World Boxing announced on Friday that sex checks must be taken. In order to ensure the safety of all participants and provide a competitive level playing field for both men and women, World Boxing stated in a statement that the introduction of compulsory testing may be a part of a new plan on” Sex, Age and Weight.” Imane Khelif, an Algerian boxer, was one of the subjects of disagreement at last week’s Paris Olympics, and the union said it made the decision. Khelif’s Italian player refused to fight her in the knockout round, blatantly claiming that she was not a woman because she hit too hard. Helif then rose up the ladder to claim the silver medal. The International Olympic Committee ( IOC ) has requested that World Boxing organize the boxing competition for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and it has informed the Algerian Boxing Federation that Khelif must take a sex test before being allowed to compete in the upcoming Eindhoven Box Cup in the Netherlands from June 5 to 10 respectively. Imane Khelif won’t been permitted to compete in the adult category at the Eindhoven Box Cup or any other World Boxing competitions until she passes sex testing, according to a declaration from the world body. National boxing associations may be required to verify and test the sex of individual athletes and issue World Boxing certification before they are permitted to compete.

How does sexual testing be conducted?

All athletes over the age of 18 must pass a polymerase chain reaction (PCR ) genetic test before being permitted to compete in World Boxing-sponsored competitions under the new policy. To decide a woman’s assigned sex at birth, physically specific material is discovered using a nasal or tongue brush, blood or saliva test, or both. The PCR test is a lab procedure that uses a particular genetic materials, such as the SRY protein, to reveal the presence of the Y chromosome, which is a sign of physiological sex, according to World Boxing. If initial tests reveal evidence of female chromosomal material, World Boxing said athletes who want to compete in women’s categories will be referred to independent medical specialists for biological screening, endocrine profiles, morphological examination, or other endocrine profiles valuation. Additionally, the new scheme allows for elegance. Helif is expected to return to foreign competition at Eindhoven second month and has made the announcement to defend her gold medal from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. I see myself as a child, just like any other woman, in my eyes. The hero athlete said back in March that he was born a woman, raised as a girl, and lived his whole life as one.
