Penn climate scientist’s lawsuit award drastically reduced, has to pay opponents’ legal fees

ANALYSIS: Judge orders to pay$ 1 million in defendants ‘ fees total, wipes out nearly his entire award.

For University of Pennsylvania weather professor Michael Mann, it’s been a terrible week.

He received criticism for his social media posts the week before last ( in reference to a federal judge’s decision to end the Department ). Education ) states that” We’re in second amendment territory if Trump doesn’t comply.”

Mann deleted the post after being attacked for what appeared to be a visit to assault against the president. He later responded, saying,” The second act refers to the right of the people to climb up and defend democracy. It is very deceptive to assert that this poses a menace to Trump.

However, Mann is probably best known for bringing a decade-old slander complaint against National Review, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and influencers Rand Simberg and Mark Steyn for calling his methods “fraudulent” and “intellectually bogus”

Mann won the initial contest and was given a$ 1 million prize last year by a court.

Three years later, however, a judge declared National Review and the Competitive Enterprise Institute exempt from libel liability. Mann stated that he would file an appeal.

Then, in January, DC Superior Court Judge Alfred Irving ordered Mann to pay National Review more than$ 500,000 for its legal fees. This was followed by a$ 5,500 reduction of Mann’s “grossly excessive”$ 1 million award in March.

Lastly, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Irving ordered Mann to pay$ 477, 000 for the CEI and Simberg’s legal costs only over a year prior.

Further: News organizations pit climate science professors against one another for bringing lawsuits against their critics

    From the narrative:

In a statement, Mann and I stated that we intend to get further assessment of the charge award that the trial court had entered because we think it was improperly decided. We are also pursuing an charm from the trial court’s earlier decision, which reduced the punitive damages the judge and another errors, at me. …

Mann’s case included the fact that the influencers ‘ claims had an impact on his grant money. However, the facts he presented at the test were inexact.

For instance, Mann’s prosecutors filed an exhibit that claimed the professor received a$ 9.7 million grant but that the grant’s budget was merely$ 112, 000.

Irving argued in his March mind that the misrepresentation was” an anathema to the Court’s power and an assault on the dignity of the proceedings.”

This is a picture of not only what our future will look like, but it will actually look a lot worse than this, Mann said on CNN last month. If we continue to pump coal into the environment and make the planet warmer, the situation gets worse.

Less: Minor climate teacher is one move closer to a frivolous lawsuit ensnaring the National Review.
