'Putin is a thug': US senators say he’s stalling peace with Ukraine, planning new offensive

Two older US legislators have expressed concern that Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, is purposefully putting off peace agreements while setting up a new military offensive in Ukraine. The next two days may be critical in shaping the outcome of a conflict that has ravaged cities, displaced millions, and altered Europe’s security environment, according to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal, who spoke from Paris on Sunday. The senators met Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, and traveled to regions ravaged by what they characterized as the worst Russian airstrikes since the start of the war. They warned that the screen to stop another assault is quickly closing as they were speaking with French President Emmanuel Macron, who they claimed is” 100 % aligned” with their opinions. A comprehensive republican US sanctions act that aims to cripple the Kremlin’s war economy is at the center of their efforts. The legislation would implement crippling tariffs of 500 % on nations continuing to buy Russian oil, gas, thorium, and other important exports, which has large assistance in the Senate but faces uncertain hopes in Washington. The primary target would be countries like China and India, which account for about 70 % of Russia’s energy industry. It was” the most draconian bill I’ve ever seen in my life in the Senate,” according to Senator Graham. Both senators expressed concern about the slower pace of the pace of peace negotiations, which are scheduled to begin on Monday in Istanbul.” The earth has a lot of cards to play against Putin. Russian officials claim that Moscow has not yet made any significant proposals, which the senators have characterized as a deliberate delaying tactic by Putin to allow for a fresh offensive. Blumenthal blatantly stated,” Putin is playing President Trump.” He claims to be treating him like a junkie. He continued,” He’s stalling and stonewalling to mount this offensive and seize more territory.” Graham concurred, stating that” we saw credible evidence of a summer or early fall invasion, a new offensive by Putin. He is getting ready for a second world war,” Trump said,” I don’t know. The US president hasn’t supported the sanctions act.” I’ll own to watch it. The lawmakers hope their direct contacts with the disaster in Ukraine may influence Washington’s opinions. Graham noted that the policy was developed with input from Trump’s advisers. According to Blumenthal,” He needs to hear and see that information from the American people when nicely.” Additionally, their visit revealed the terrible human costs of the fight. According to estimates, almost 20 000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly deported to Russia, according to Graham, and their return is” a matter of justice, no diplomacy.” Bulumenthal mentioned visiting Bucha large graves where close-quarters of a million people were executed there. ” Putin is a thug,” says Putin. He is a murderer, he claimed. The US might get even further into the issue if it doesn’t work right away, according to both men. Blumenthal reacted with caution,” If Putin isn’t stopped, Nato treaty obligations may push American troops into battle.” Both lawmakers expressed confidence in Europe’s ability to strengthen its position following a conference with Macron. According to Blumenthal,” President Macron has demonstrated social clarity.” A vote on the restrictions costs may soon be cast as Ukraine’s defense leaders prepare to simple Congress.” He fully agrees with the information we’re taking back to Washington. In the end, Graham said,” President Trump said we’ll hear whether he’s being strung along in two month.” ” On Monday, there will be more data from Russia,” the statement states.
