From e-passports to colour-coded covers: Indian expats in UAE to see major passport overhaul in 2025

    In 2025, Indian documents will undergo a high-tech, user-friendly renovation, which is particularly important for the over 3.5 million Indians who reside in the UAE. These radical changes aim to revamp how Indians manage one of their most significant identity documents, including chip-enabled e-passports and simpler documents for families. What’s changing, and why it matters: 1. State hello to e-passportIndia has begun making e-passports with Radio chips that store genetic data, including prints, digital signatures, and visual information. They are designed to::: conform to international Iso requirements;

    • Increase the speed of emigration balances
    • Better data protection
    • immediately concern with each new request or regeneration

Therefore, you’ll probably receive the upgraded version of your passport if you’re applying for a new one or renewing one in the UAE. No particular request required. 2. Do you want to add your spouse’s brand? No registration certificate is required for relationship, making a significant change for American passport holders. To mark the mutual declaration, which includes images, ID facts, and signatures, both spouses must be physically present at the Indian Consulate in the UAE. Bonus: After getting married, women can also use the same type to upgrade or modify their last names. 3. Birth document now required for some If your child was born on or after October 1, 2023, you must present a government-issued baby license to demonstrate their date of birth. The document may get:

    • issued by the UAE health officials.
    • The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has certified it.
    • submitted with paperwork like the marriage license and parents ‘ documents
    • Candidates who are older can also apply for driving licenses, voter identification, or school records.

    4. Personal addresses are no longer printed on the last section of a passport to protect personal privacy. Rather:

    • They will be online stored.
    • Linked using a product or Scan code
    • simply immigration or government officials have access.

This shift improves data security and reduces use. 5. Parents ‘ or legal guardians ‘ names will no longer appear on new Indian documents in a move toward diversity. The shift makes uses simpler for individuals from:

    • Single-parental families
    • separating people
    • Non-traditional or LGBTQ+ home structures

    6. To simplify recognition, India is introducing a color-coded id cover system: passport covers get a color code

    • White – Officers in the state
    • Red – Ambassadors
    • Blue – Unchangeable common people

Believe shorter lines and cleaner queues at immigration bars. 7. More card processing centers planned By 2030, India plans to expand its passport support system from 442 to 600 centers, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, to shorten wait times and improve exposure. Bottom line These alterations promise faster, safer, and more inclusive services, suddenly keeping the passport system up to date with the times, whether you’re renewing your passport in Dubai or applying for your baby’s first one in Abu Dhabi.
