WWDC 2025: Apple Employees Say Conference Will Be AI News ‘Letdown’

Due to the absence of any important announcements related to artificial intelligence, Apple workers are concerned that the Worldwide Developer Conference will be a “letdown” the following week. Apple may concentrate on the new labeling convention and the overhaul of its operating systems.

According to Apple inside Mark Gurman, “people within the corporation believe the meeting may be a letdown from an AI perspective.”

Additionally, no fresh products are anticipated to be unveiled at WWDC 2025. The upcoming equipment line-up, which includes Apple Watches and smartphones, won’t be available until the fall.

What to anticipate for WWDC in 2025

Apple has some presentations up its sleeve for the meeting, starting with a perfect operating system reform for all of its devices, despite not having revolutionary AI. The new, more contemporary appearance will be called” Solarium” and will be based on the current visionOS design. According to the discharge date, apps 26 might be the next operating system to follow a new naming convention.

By naming each program after the next year, Apple, in Gurman’s opinion, will have more freedom to move out updates that are still appropriate, especially as it intends to do so more often going forward. Gurman added that the corporation wants to” transform the conversation away from the tech itself” and that all of its platforms should be based on a “futuristic” appearance.

The Sierra Nevada’s Lake Tahoe is the name of os 26 and is slated to be called apps Tahoe. According to Gurman, the river’s mirror-like mirror of the game’s fresh visuals nods to the system’s blue sky and mountains.

    New games application

Additionally, Apple intends to roll out a new centralized game app that comes with its operating systems. Users will be able to start games, see leaderboards, and talk with other players from below, and the macOS 26 edition will also save games that are sold outside the App Store. According to Gurman, this app has the potential to significantly alter the gaming industry because” when ( players ) want to network with other players, they have much better options” from companies like Sony or Xbox.

Gurman said that some people have suspected this as a way to lessen emphasis on the App Store to satisfy authorities, despite his personal disagreements. The EU has expressed concern about how in the past, Apple’s unique software market stifled competition from next parties.

Some WWDC announcements will have AI in mind, as it will help with battery optimization, Siri’s verbal skills, and provide live translation for AirPods. Moreover, access to Apple’s designs will be granted to third-party software developers, but Gurman said these are still much less effective than the cloud-based ones used by OpenAI and Apple internally.

Apple has laggarded in AI development.

Apple has struggled to bring down Google and OpenAI in the Artificial market so much. When Apple Intelligence first launched last year, somewhat later than the phone 16, it “proved more branded than breakthrough,” according to Gurman. Genmoji and Priority Notifications were its key features, but they sounded a little out of date in comparison to the powerful multimodalities of GPT-4o and the Gemini 2.0 Flash‘s agentic products.

Since then, OpenAI has collaborated with Jony Ive, a former chief design officer at Apple, to design the company’s future hardware project, which would involve a potential AI-powered iPhone rival. Google is allowing Gemini exposure to private information for AI Mode in Search to give users more related results, a characteristic Apple has yet to integrate with Siri.

Apple is reluctant to quickly make very many AI promises.

Additional AI developments are on the horizon, including virtual reality glasses and a revised Health software with a virtual wellness coach, although these are not anticipated until 2026. Gurman claimed that Apple is also developing a ChatGPT rival that can extract information from the internet, which has been dubbed” Knowledge” by staff, but he was informed that “it’s already been plagued by some of the same issues that delayed the Siri overhaul.”

While any of these functions might be unveiled at WWDC 2025, Apple is reluctant to make announcements too soon. After all, many of the Apple Intelligence attributes that were unveiled at the 2024 meeting did not materialize until much later, and Apple is now facing a class-action complaint from Apple, alleging that it misled phone 16 clients by promising to release AI-powered Siri features that haven’t yet been made.
