Sudan: 5 killed in attack on aid convoy, UN says
Representative Image created using artificial intelligence.

UN agencies reported on Tuesday that five help workers were killed in a caravan strike in Sudan, which prevented food from being delivered to people in the war-torn Darfur region. Monday night, a 15-truck convoy was attacked close to the Rapid Support Forces ( RSF)-controlled Koma town in North Darfur province. ” The fleet had five people killed and several others were hurt. Multiple trucks were burned, and important humanitarian supplies were harmed, according to a joint statement from Unicef and the World Food Programme ( WFP). Both organizations demanded an exploration into the strike, which they claimed was against international humanitarian law. It is devastating that the items did not reach the troubled children and families they were supposed to, the statement continued. The organizations did not reveal the identity of the attacker. According to the UN, Sudanese vendors employed by WFP and UNICEF were the victims and the injured.

The parties in conflict exchange responsible for the strike:

The aid organizations claimed that the fleet was attacked while attempting to enter El-Fasher area, one of the last fortified areas of Sudan. El-Fasher has been under assault by RSF troops since 2024. The trucks had driven from Port Sudan, a city in the Red Sea’s eastern region, for more than 1,800 kilometers ( 1,100 miles ). According to UN official Stephane Dujarric,” This was the first UN charitable fleet that was going to make it to el-Fasher in more than a year.” Sudan’s military-led state refuted this claim and said in a speech that help cars were” wickedly attacked by assault robots operated by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia”.

    Sudan suffering from hunger:

Sudan has been stricken by what the UN has referred to as the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with more than a million people in North Darfur state alone on the verge of starvation since fighting between the RSF militia class and Sudan’s military-controlled government started two years ago. Tens of thousands of people have been killed in the battle, 13 million have been displaced, and there have been severe poverty and movement crises. The UN refugee agency ( UNHCR ) announced on Tuesday that four million people had escaped Sudan’s borders.
