According to &nbsp, NYPD Police &nbsp, Commissioner &nbsp, Jessica Tisch, the number of murders and deaths in the town dropped to record lows over the first five months of the year.

According to Tisch, last month was also the safest May the town has ever seen, with shootings and homicides not this small in May since the CompStat era started in 1994.

At&nbsp, City Hall&nbsp, with Mayor Eric Adams&nbsp, while surrounded by some of the 22, 000 weapon seized by police over the past three and a half years, Tisch said,” The NYPD’s function in May was excellent and the results were traditional. 2025 is thus the safest month on record for both shootings and deaths.

There were 54 killings and 18 deaths in May, according to statistics from the NYPD and the FBI, which is a new record low. The month marked the start of a powerful five straight month of drops in violence, including the safest&nbsp, Memorial Day&nbsp, and weekends on record in the CompStat time. ( CompStat refers to” computer statistics. )

By the time of May 31, police had investigated 112 deaths, a 28 % decrease from last year, and 44 deaths were fewer. Additionally, Cops recorded 264 shootings, or about 20 % less than this year, at this time last year.

Deaths and killings have decreased significantly this year compared to the prior year’s epidemic. In 2014 and 2017, when police investigated 113 murders annually, the preceding record-setting season was set at 113. The past all-time low for murders was in 2018, when 267 were being investigated by police.

” We’ve promised to end gun violence, and we’re working toward that goal,” Adams said.

Tisch attributed the NYPD’s Summer Violence Reduction Plan to the dramatic decreases in violence in May. The NYPD&nbsp, which began on May 5 and identified 70 high-crime places in 57 city precincts, flooded those areas with more than 1, 500 armed officers at the time the crime takes place.

In consequence, Tisch reported that crime in the areas where additional police officers were added has decreased by 28 %. There has been a 65 % decrease in shootings in those regions, with some typically crime-prone districts like the 44th Precinct in the Bronx, where Yankee Stadium has stands, never having seen a second shooting in May.

” Our strong, agressive, and data-driven summer-reduction strategy concentrates every day on one thing: people safety,” Tisch said. Our “scandal approach to crime prevention plays”

According to authorities, general crime in the city had decreased by 6 % as of July 1; from 50, 349 criminal offences this time next year, to 47, 258, according to authorities.

Murders, the sole crime type to experience an increase, increased by 27 %, from 645 occurrences reported last year to 820, the only other crime category. The&nbsp, NYPD&nbsp, said this year’s increase is in part attributed to legislative changes made in New York state last September that expanded the legal description of murder to now include additional forms of physical abuse.
