Over the weekend, Protests erupted in California as a result of the Trump administration’s endeavors to detain illegal immigrants there.
President Donald Trump warned Monday that Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell had said protesters are getting “very many more aggressive”, and he reiterated names to bring in more military forces to quell protests.
If California officials decide that action is necessary, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has 500 Marines on standby to build to the place.
Three weeks of demonstrations
Thirty-nine people were arrested over the weekend for participating in protests, McDonnell said at a press conference Sunday night. Individually, San Francisco police reported 60 detention on Sunday nights.
After federal brokers detained about 44 immigrants in Paramount, California, on Friday, immigration and customs enforcement launched broad immigration and customs police searches throughout the city. Federal officials executed search warrants at three places, according to the Department of Homeland Security. According to authorities, there were murderers, sexual offenders, and other violent offenders among those detained in the Los Angeles push. Over the course of a year, the DHS detained 118 unlawful immigrants in the Los Angeles area, including the 44 detained in Paramount and the agency’s five designated gang members, according to the BBC.
Angelica Salas, chairman of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, said there were seven assaults throughout the area on Friday. She referred to them as “random washes” that were carried out without a permit.
Salas remarked,” This has to stop.” ” Immigration protection that is terrorizing our people throughout this country and picking up our people that we love must cease now”.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, the president of SEIU California, a significant labor union, was detained and accused of impeding a provincial broker while protesting.
After federal officials conducted an activity targeting unlawful immigrants working at San Diego restaurants, anti-ICE attitude has been growing in California for days. Another recent attacks carried out by ICE include the detention of 239 unlawful immigrants during a weekly activity from May 4 to May 10 that “focused on bolstering people security in the greater Los Angeles area”.
According to the outlet, “misinformation” that ICE was conducting a sweep of unlawful immigrants working at a Paramount Home Depot, where many illegal immigrants go to find work contributed to the protests over the past three weeks. During the riots, The Hope Depot became a significant flashpoint for demonstrators.
The protesters, some of whom have worn masks, have been accused of assaulting law enforcement and federal agency officials, blocking off a major freeway, and committing other criminal acts. They have included calls to” Kill ICE” on various public buildings and other structures. As well as several self-driving cars owned by Waymo, a ride-hailing service, were set on fire by American flags. One demonstrator used a makeshift flamethrower to set the interior of one of the cars ablaze, while others were seen throwing Lime electric scooters into the burning cars. The Border Patrol agents inside were hurt when other rioters hurled rocks through the pickup truck’s windshield. California Highway Patrol officers have been accused of hurling rocks, electric scooters, rocks, and fireworks at them while blocking a federal bus in the street.
Rioters shattered multiple windows of the police headquarters, per CBS News. Police officers have been accused of throwing rocks, bottles, and Molotov cocktails, and two motorcyclists have been reported to have intentionally struck officers behind a police barricade on Sunday afternoon.
An anti-ICE demonstrator told Reuters,” Now they know that they cannot go anywhere in this country where our people are and try to kidnap our workers, our people.”” They cannot do that without an organized and fierce resistance,” the demonstrator said.
Trump warns National Guard troops’ will be everywhere’
Gov. is being sued by the White House. Governors Bass and Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, accused of not demonstrating effectively with force. California Democrats have allowed lawlessness to fester, according to the Trump administration, a move it argues has failed to protect citizens, led to violent attacks on federal authorities, and enabled the destruction of property.
Trump has argued that “law and order” must be restored, citing the presence of military personnel.
The president warned that if protesters spit on law enforcement officers, they will “get hit very hard” as a result.

The first of the 2, 000 National Guard troops to arrive in Los Angeles early on Sunday morning was quickly sent by the White House.  , There are now around 300 members of the California National Guard deployed to Los Angeles County, while hundreds of Marines are on standby.
In response to the demonstrations, law enforcement met demonstrators wearing tactical gear and used tear gas, pepper spray, and other crowd control measures. When they interact with protesters, police also use zip ties and riot gear while wearing shields and cuffs.
ICE has often controversially used face masks to carry out arrests to avoid being doxed, arguing they need to protect their identities in order to protect themselves and their families from blowback due to “false narratives” spread by Democrats about ICE’s mission and activity.
Democrats minimize riots.
Newsom has pressed Trump to reverse his executive order directing the National Guard to halt the riots in Los Angeles. The governor has pledged to sue the White House over the matter, arguing that the president’s directive is unlawful under federal law, state and local authorities are best equipped to protect the area, and that militarizing the situation has escalated tensions.

Overall, Democrats have accused ICE of inciting the protests due to federal agents ‘ efforts to arrest and deport illegal immigrants.
They claim that the” cruel” Trump administration is to blame for the chaos that erupted over the weekend, and that the National Guard’s appointment represents a dangerously authoritarian approach that has unnecessarily sparked tensions. Trump’s actions to deploy the National Guard are deemed an “alarming abuse of power,” according to the 22 Democratic governors in the state who recently signed a letter. As he attempts to “militarize California,” the letter states that all 22 governors in the state have recently signed.
” It started peacefully, then we had federal officers, you know, doing the tear gas, shooting out pellets”, Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-CA ) said on CNN’s State of the Union.
The California congresswoman continued,” People were there to protest.” They are present to protest the widespread deportations that are taking place. And so it was peaceful. And of course, you cause the situation to worsen. You’re now enquiring about involving the National Guard to help militarize the situation. It’s going to get worse. It’s never necessary again.
Kamala Harris and Cory Booker (D-NJ) are two of the other Democrats who have called the riots “peaceful protests,” even as they have called the attacks on law enforcement “unacceptable.”
” Los Angeles is my home”, Harris said in a statement Saturday evening. ” And like so many Americans, I am horrified by what we are seeing on our city’s streets. The National Guard’s deployment is a risky move intended to stoke chaos.
” The reality is we see peaceful protests launching in Los Angeles”, Booker said Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press. Any violence directed at police officers should not be tolerated, though. That is handled by local authorities. But remember, a lot of these peaceful protests are being generated because the president of the United States is sowing chaos and confusion by arresting people who are showing up for their immigration hearings, who are trying to abide by the law”.
“border czar” Tom Homan on Saturday did not rule out arresting Bass or Newsom if they obstruct immigration enforcement, despite not accusing either politician of doing so and saying he did not think Bass had” crossed the line yet.”
Homan said, “I’ll say it about anyone. ” You cross that line, it’s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It’s illegal to obstruct law enforcement from carrying out their duties.
Newsom responded to Homan’s comments during a Sunday evening MSNBC interview.
” Come after me, arrest me”, Newsom said. Let’s just move on, tough guy, you know? I don’t give a damn. But I care about my community. I care about this neighborhood.”
What in the world are they doing? Newsom added. These men must develop. We must intervene, and they must stop. And I’m sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, take me into custody. Let’s get moving.”
Republicans back National Guard deployment
According to White House officials, Los Angeles’s events “were a violent insurrection.” They claim that the National Guard is required to stop “violent mob assaults” against law enforcement.
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo justified the efforts Sunday as he compared the unrest to the nationwide riots following the death of George Floyd in 2020.
